Traditionally, a groom’s cake was similar to that of a fruit cake - being that it was usually quite rich with many fried fruits and nuts. The legend, was that small pieces of the cake were placed in boxes for
the unmarried female guests to place under their pillow, and supposedly, the man they dreamt of would eventually be their husband.
Unfortunately, many bride’s unknowingly overlook this part of the reception. I actually recommend that the bride do order a groom’s cake. It is a nice gesture for the groom when you see how much of the
wedding is actually “for the bride”.
If you do elect to have a groom’s cake it could be along the theme of something he enjoys doing - if he likes to play football (or is just a fan) then get him a cake that looks like a football, or has a theme of his
favorite team, player or even college. I have done groom’s cakes with a Harley on it, a Shrine bowl poster, the groom’s dog, a computer, basketball and many other sports themed cakes. Career themed are
also popular.
